Moltex welcomes Navid Badie as Chief Nuclear Engineer

Saint John, New Brunswick (Wednesday, February 23, 2022)Moltex Energy is thrilled to welcome Navid Badie as Chief Nuclear Engineer, effective Monday, January 24, 2022.

Mr. Badie will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of Moltex’s reactor program in Canada. In addition to acting as a technical expert, advising on the engineering design phases, he will provide leadership and direction on strategic elements of the business, including project management, resourcing, licensing, and research and development.

“We are extremely grateful to have Mr. Badie join the Moltex team,” said Michael England, Chief Operating Officer, North America, Moltex Energy. “His deep knowledge of reactor design and development, coupled with his decades of experience delivering complex reactor programs in Canada, make him an invaluable resource.”

Mr. Badie retired from Candu Energy (part of SNC-Lavalin) in 2021, having served as Chief Nuclear Engineer and Senior Vice President of Engineering. He also previously held senior leadership roles at Atomic Energy of Canada Limited. Prior to that, he worked at Kinectrics and Ontario Power Generation.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to help develop Moltex’s innovative reactor technologies, alongside a team of knowledgeable and dynamic individuals,” said Navid Badie, Chief Nuclear Engineer, Moltex Energy. “Small modular reactors will play an important role in the future of the nuclear industry, and Moltex’s design is particularly attractive given its ability to consume long-lived nuclear waste while producing clean energy.”

Mr. Badie will support the development of Moltex’s Stable Salt Reactor – Wasteburner (SSR-W) that uses recycled nuclear waste as fuel; a WAste To Stable Salt (WATSS) process for recycling nuclear waste; and GridReserve thermal energy storage tanks so the reactor can act as a peaking plant.

Mr. Badie has a Master of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto. He represented Canada on the IAEA Standing Advisory Group on Nuclear Energy (SAGNE) in its most recent two terms (2015-2021).
