Moltex sponsors First Nations Power Authority event

Saint John, New Brunswick (Wednesday, November 4, 2020)Moltex Energy is delighted to sponsor the First Nations Power Authority (FNPA) National SMR Forum with Indigenous Communities event November 16-17, 2020.

The FNPA event is designed to bring together industry, governments, and Indigenous communities interested in the development of SMRs and other clean energy technologies.

“We are very grateful for Moltex’s support of this event,” said Guy Lonechild, Chief Executive Officer, FNPA. “We believe that when Indigenous communities are engaged in the dialogue with industry and governments it will lead to Indigenous economic reconciliation. SMRs can benefit Indigenous people in many ways – socially, financially, health-wise – and we are eager to find pathways to development.”

In February 2020, Moltex and the North Shore Micmac District Council (NSMDC) formed a partnership to work collaboratively on the development and implementation of Moltex technologies to fight climate change and provide employment and economic opportunities for Indigenous people in New Brunswick.

“Moltex has been a leading example of a company deeply committed to early Indigenous engagement,” said James Ward, General Manager, NSMDC. “The company’s ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and alignment on key issues affecting our seven member nations gives us confidence it will contribute to the betterment of our people.”

Moltex is developing an SMR that consumes used CANDU fuel. The company’s goal is to deploy its first reactor at the Point Lepreau nuclear site as early as 2030.

“Indigenous engagement is one of our top priorities,” said Rory O’Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer, North America, Moltex Energy. “We want to build meaningful and long-lasting relationships with the multiple Indigenous communities in and around New Brunswick where we are developing our reactor technology. We want to partner with Indigenous-owned businesses. And we want to create high-value jobs for Indigenous youth.”

Moltex is a “Megawatt” sponsor, contributing $5,000 towards the FNPA event.

A representative from Moltex will also showcase the company’s innovative technology during the Nuclear Applications panel on November 17, at 2:00 p.m. ADT (12:00 p.m. CST).

Registration for the FNPA event is still open: https://pheedloop.com/smrforum/site/register/.
