NB Power has more than 2,400 employees across the Province that are dedicated to providing customer value to more than 400,000 direct and indirect customers in New Brunswick.

About Ontario Power Generation: OPG is one of the most diverse electricity generators in North America. It produces about half of the electricity Ontarians rely on every day, and its clean, safe, power costs an average of 40% less than other generators.About Bruce Power: Formed in 2001, Bruce Power is an electricity company based in Bruce County, Ontario. We are powered by our people. Our 4,200 employees are the foundation of our accomplishments and are proud of the role they play in safely delivering clean, reliable, low-cost nuclear power to families and businesses across the province. About the Nuclear Waste Management Organisation: The Nuclear Waste Management Organisation (NWMO) is responsible for implementing, collaboratively with Canadians and Indigenous people, Canada’s Plan for the safe, long-term management of used nuclear fuel. Made up of engineers, technical experts, social scientists and engagement professionals, the NWMO is implementing Canada’s plan, in a manner that protects both people and the environment. Canada’s plan calls for containment and isolation of used nuclear fuel in a deep geological repository, which is made up of a series of natural and engineered barriers. This facility will be located in an area with informed, willing hosts and a suitable rock formation. The NWMO is on track to identify a single, preferred location for this facility by approximately 2023. It is currently active in five areas: Hornepayne, Huron-Kinloss, Ignace, Manitouwadge and South Bruce. This project will only proceed in partnership with people in the area, including First Nation, Métis and municipal communities.

About Moltex Energy: Moltex Energy’s innovative Stable Salt Reactor (SSR) design meets four simultaneous challenges

  • It delivers clean energy, necessary for the fight against climate change.
  • It delivers cheap energy, at a lower cost than fossil fuels, so there are no financial barriers to adoption and the cost of electricity could be reduced.
  • It delivers a variable energy output, so that it can work alongside intermittent renewables in a truly carbon-free electricity grid.
  • It uses existing nuclear waste as its fuel, helping to clean up a substantial environmental challenge and, potentially, starting to change some more entrenched public perceptions of nuclear.

In July 2018, Moltex Energy was selected by NB Power to progress development of the SSR-W (Stable Salt Reactor – Wasterburner) technology in New Brunswick, with the aim of deploying its first SSR-W at the Point Lepreau nuclear reactor site before 2030.
