Moltex CEO Rory O’Sullivan re-elected to CNA Board of Directors

Saint John, New Brunswick (Monday, June 19, 2023) Moltex Energy Canada Inc. (Moltex) is pleased to announce the re-election of Rory O’Sullivan, Moltex Chief Executive Officer, to the Canadian Nuclear Association Board of Directors.

“Moltex occupies a unique space within the Canadian nuclear industry with its cutting-edge fuel recycling technology, in addition to being part of a new generation of advanced small modular reactor developers in Canada,” said John MacQuarrie, CNA Board Chair and President of BWXT Canada Ltd. “Mr. O’Sullivan is highly skilled in many areas of leadership, and brings a depth of knowledge of the global nuclear industry to the Board.”

The CNA Board election was held in conjunction with the Canadian Nuclear Society Annual Conference in Saint John. To be elected to the Board, candidates had to demonstrate skill and knowledge in a selection of several diverse areas, including strategy, innovation, change leadership, and stakeholder engagement. O’Sullivan was re-elected following recent changes made to CNA governance, which included reducing the size of the Board of Directors from 34 to 15 members.

“I’m delighted to continue serving on the CNA Board on behalf of Moltex,” said O’Sullivan. “As a member of New Brunswick’s growing nuclear cluster and developer of a new kind of reactor that runs on recycled nuclear waste, I look forward to continuing to broaden the conversation about nuclear energy in Canada. Nuclear is a source of clean, reliable power that can help us meet our climate targets and ensure a just transition, and I’m committed to working with the CNA to spread awareness at all levels.”

With a background in mechanical engineering and major project management, O’Sullivan has been with Moltex since 2014. In 2018, O’Sullivan moved to New Brunswick to establish the company’s Canadian subsidiary, and since then has been working with NB Power, the Government of New Brunswick, and other stakeholders to advance the company’s reactor and fuel recycling technology in the region.

Consisting of more than 100 members, the CNA is the voice and primary advocate for nuclear energy in Canada.

About Moltex:

Moltex is a nuclear technology leader that has caught the attention of governments, utilities and investors worldwide. It is developing three unique technologies: a Stable Salt Reactor – Wasteburner (SSR-W) that uses recycled nuclear waste as fuel; a WAste To Stable Salt (WATSS) process for recycling nuclear waste to produce SSR-W fuel; and GridReserve thermal energy storage tanks, enabling the SSR-W to act as a peaking plant. Moltex was selected by NB Power to progress development of its reactor technology in New Brunswick, Canada, with the goal of deploying first-of-a-kind SSR-W, WATSS and GridReserve units at the Point Lepreau site.
