The CEO of New Brunswick Power, Gaëtan Thomas, is pleased with our progress as we pursue the implementation of the first of a kind Stable Salt Reactor (Wasteburner) at the Point Lepreau site.
One sentence in the NBP announcement puts it rather well: “Small modular reactors have inherent safety characteristics, simpler design, lower cost, ability to recycle their used fuel, and will have superior ability to follow the intermittent variable load from renewable power sources.”
The Energy and Resource Development Minister, Mike Holland, said, “Small modular technologies…are well positioned to provide an important solution to climate change and rising world-wide energy demand.”
